An Chúirt Chruitireachta Annual International Harp Festival

An Grianán, Termonfechin, Co. Louth

Sunday 28th June to Friday 3rd July 2020

Breaking News March 31st 2020

Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, we are sad to say that we have been forced to cancel an Chúirt Chruitireachta, our International Festival for Irish Harp. We will be issuing deposit refunds as soon as we can, but bear with us as we are a small, voluntary team.

We are currently exploring how we might bring you the best of Irish harping virtually.

In the meantime, stay safe and keep harping. We will be back.

Go dté sibh slán. Beidh lá eile ag na cruitirí!

Who Should Attend?

Seize this opportunity to become immersed in all aspects of traditional music for Irish harp. Develop skills and repertoire from ancient harpers’ tunes to songs and slow airs to jigs and reels.

Bígí linn agus bainigí taitneamh as togha agus rogha an cheoil le cruitirí den scoth. Have the experience of a lifetime at An Grianán, Termonfechin, Co. Louth.

Tá fáilte roimh chách idir óg agus aosta. We accept harpers of all ages, standards and styles from absolute beginners to advanced players. Participants are graded and assigned to mentors who can offer them the best opportunity for improvement.

Children under 10 years must be accompanied by an adult.

What Can I Learn?

Tutoring sessions are conducted on a modular basis so that participants can benefit from a collaborative multidisciplinary teaching approach. A full range of harping techniques are covered and include:

  • Irish harping techniques
  • Traditional ornamentation
  • Session and group playing
  • Wire strung harp styles
  • Music of the 16th and 17th century Harpers
  • Singing in Irish and English

If participants have specific requirements, we'll endeavour to ensure that they are addressed during the week.

Public concerts, workshops and sessions

A highlight of An Chúirt Chruitireachta is our popular evening public concert series. Featuring world-renowned harpers from Ireland and further afield, this series is a major annual showcase celebrating Irish harping.

Meet our young harpers at our pop-up opening afternoon concert on Sunday 28th June. Watch out for our Festival lunchtime harp series at The Tholsel in Drogheda featuring our rising harp stars and friends.

Listen to our expert harpers at An Chúirt Chruitireachta’s afternoon workshops. Festival mentors and workshop specialists give participants an opportunity to experience world-class performers in a relaxed interactive setting.
Relax at our evening harp sessions where tunes are played and harp friendships made.

We welcome harp makers from all corners of the world to our annual harp exhibition where we give pride of place to our premier Irish harp makers. This will take place Sunday 28th June at An Grianán 2.30-5pm
